FAQs

We keep our prices as low as possible as we buy direct from the few sources of wool fabric that exist. We also directly import from mills around the world which removes the middleman and keeps our prices low!

Being online only means our costs are lower too!

There are only 3 wool distributors in the US and ALL shops buy from the same sources. (Hand dyed wool is the exception -- the base wool is the same, but every shop dyes their wool differently.) You may see a different selection of wools at another shop, but we can assure you that's old stock from the same sources we purchase from.

Why are prices different? It's a combination of high fixed costs, getting a less than good price due to not buying a lot of wool and sheer greed.

We encourage you to look at other sites and compare prices. You'll be shocked to see what some sites charge for the same wool we have; we've seen prices 30% higher than ours!

Why spend more than you have to?

Well, we used to have a retail shop and it was LOADED with wool of all kinds and colors!

Sadly, the way people shopped has changed. The number of wool shops has drastically declined in the last 10 years and there are very few remaining. There are a few shops here and there, but they are either very small with limited stock (and operate out a converted garage for example) or are artist studios who do specialized work (they tend to have limited hours and even more limited selection).

In our case, we saw a 90% decline in in-person sales; most of our business is online from folks all over the world. Our rent and other fixed costs went up also. We had to decide between staying open and having to raise our prices considerably or focus on online sales which keep our prices reasonable.

I suppose we can blame Amazon for the shift to online sales!

We do.

We have many finishing options available. We'd be happy to discuss them with you.

However, we have to see your hooked repair item before we can work on it. Often old rugs were made on burlap, and burlap has the bad habit of breaking down over time. It can get so brittle attempts at repair does more harm than good,

Braided items can quite often be repaired/relaced. Due to condition and wear, we can't guarantee that we can match the color of the original wool if it needs to be replaced.

Before items are accepted for repair/finishing it must be cleaned of dirt and animal hair. Use a vacuum without the beater bar attachment to remove dirt and hair. A dilute Woolite solution can be used to clean stains.

Unfortunately, we no longer have a retail shop that you can visit.
